Send Out Our Young

The reason why there is so much violence and war today is that people's minds and hearts are not changed. They
must be changed in order for peace to exist. The older we get, the harder it is to affect change in ourselves. That is why we
must send our young people into the world representing the good of our country, not our country's government.

People can be led. And they can be led to be good or bad. John Kennedy, when he gave his speech at the Berlin wall saying "Ich bin ein Berliner..." was overwhelmed with the roar of the crowd's applause and approval. For a moment he was gratified but then thought to himself that if he had told the crowd to go tear down the Berlin wall, the crowd would have been in a frenzy and would have torn down the wall. Harry Truman said that in a crowd of 5000, there is one who is a leader. To follow a good leader is true humanity, but to follow a bad leader is an atrocity. Leaders    of    good    always     see     that

is     caused     by     ridiculous arguments that encourage fighting and then breeds violence and war. A good leader knows that he must find a way soften the hardened heart.

In this age, governments seem to be hoarding goods. lf this world is to change the hearts and minds of the confused people in impoverished countries, the youth today should go from their developed countries into the third world and show that people do care and that it is the governments that are wrong. If today's more fortunate youth were to volunteer in impoverished countries for two months to two years, the world would see the start of something good. We would see the growth of understanding and international friendships, creating a world where helping the less fortunate is a country's main goal, instead of vying for personal profit. The millennium generation must study how to lead. and then lead responsibly and with compassion.
